Dandruff can be a huge pain, especially in the colder months when our skin and scalp are extra dry. Remember that your scalp is an extension of the rest of your skin, so proper care and moisture are needed to have long-lasting, healthy hair.

6 Natural Alternatives
Give these natural solutions a try before reaching for products with Selenium Sulfide (a common ingredient used in anti-dandruff shampoos)
Mild Shampoo
Wash your hair regularly with a mild shampoo. This will help to remove excess oil and flakes from your scalp.
Straight & Wavy Hair – Malin & Goetz
Curly & Kinky hair – DevaCurl NoPoo
These shampoos are lightweight and will not irritate your scalp. Skin/scalp irritation causes inflammation, which could look like dandruff. Find more here
Apple Cider Vinegar
I’ve used this method several times on my brother, who has sporadic dandruff. It worked surprisingly well!
The acidity of apple cider vinegar changes the pH of your scalp, making it harder for dandruff-causing fungus to thrive.
Mix equal parts with water and apply it to your scalp. Leave it on for a few minutes before rinsing it out.
Tea Tree Oil
Try using organic oils such as coconut oil and tea tree oil (Mixed together). Massage a decent amount into your scalp and leave it on for a few hours with a shower cap before washing it out.
Caution*** Don’t use tea tree oil directly on your scalp. It’s concentrated and could cause further irritation.
Lemon Juice
I haven’t used this one personally but I hear it works wonders. Use a mixture of equal parts water and lemon juice as a final rinse after washing your hair. This can help to remove excess oil and flakes.
Definitely an affordable option.
Avoid Alcohol
Avoid using hair products that contain alcohol or harsh chemicals, as these can irritate your scalp and contribute to dandruff.
You can easily check hazardous ingredients using apps like THINK DIRTY , Yuka & EWG .
Healthy Diet
Eat a healthy diet rich in essential fatty acids, vitamins, and minerals. This can help nourish your scalp and promote healthy hair growth. A healthy scalp starts with what’s put inside our bodies.
You can have the best products, but if your foundation is messed up, you’re bound to have some skin/ scalp problems.

Bonus Tips
Probiotics: A healthy gut can help improve scalp health. Adding more probiotic-rich foods like yogurt, kefir, or kombucha to your diet may help reduce dandruff. I currently take seed1 for a daily pre and probiotic.
Neem Oil or Neem Powder: Neem2 has antifungal and antibacterial properties that can help combat dandruff. You can mix neem oil with a carrier oil or make a paste with neem powder and water to apply to your scalp.
It’s important to note that it may take some time to see results with these natural remedies, and it’s always a good idea to consult a healthcare professional if your dandruff persists or is accompanied by other symptoms.
