Growing healthy hair isn’t always what we put on our hair. It starts with what we put inside our bodies. Since changing my diet to a whole food plant-based diet my hair has seen tremendous growth.

Here are my top 5 foods that I love to eat and they’re also great for keeping your hair and scalp healthy.

5 Nutritious Whole Foods for Growing Healthy Hair

Sweet Potatoes for hair growth

1. SWEET POTATOES

Sweet potatoes are filled with a good-for-you antioxidant called beta carotene. Your body turns beta carotene into vitamin A. That helps protect against dry, dull hair. It also encourages the glands in your scalp to make an oily fluid called sebum that keeps hair from drying out.

I love adding these to my salads & bowls.

Spinach and kale for hair

2. SPINACH AND KALE

Spinach & Kale are full of amazing nutrients. Like most dark green leafy vegetables, They have tons of vitamin A, plus iron, beta carotene, folate, and vitamin C.

Protect your brittle hair by adding more of these nutritious greens to your diet.

Watermelon is great for hair growth

3. WATERMELON (WITH SEEDS)

Contains “lycopene” which is a natural DHT blocker and also helps improves blood circulation.

Who doesn’t love watermelon?

Berries hair growth

4. BERRIES

LOADED WITH ANTIOXIDANTS AND VITAMIN C!  Antioxidants can help protect hair follicles against damage from free radicals which are harmful to your hair and scalp.

I love using these in smoothies, oatmeals, and salads.

Beans and legumes for hair growth

5. BEANS & SOYBEANS

Beans & Legumes contain high amounts of zinc.  Zinc is important for cell reproduction, production and maintenance of hormone levels, protein synthesis, and absorption of vitamins and other minerals.

Beans & Legumes are super versatile. You can use them in soups, bowls, burritos, pasta, dips, salads, and chilis.

Chondras Chrispus

Sea Moss

By now I’m sure you’ve heard of someone using sea moss. The demand for it has skyrocketed over the last few years. Mainly for the high nutritional benefits. Sea Moss, (also known as Chondrus Crispus) is a type of algae or seaweed and is found between Europe and North America. Sea moss has actually been used for centuries dating sea moss usage back to the 1800s.

Sea moss has a number of benefits but those benefits are mainly because of the high amount of minerals and vitamins found in it. Sea moss is said to provide 92 of the 102 minerals contained inside the human body.

  • Sea moss is still being evaluated and your own research should be done. Always consult with your health care provider before adding a new supplement to your routine.

In conclusion

Hair supplements, topicals, creams, & serums are all fantastic additions to your hair care routine but if you don’t change the foods you eat, you will be fighting a losing battle. Remember hair starts from the inside, then grows out.

As always, thanks for reading.
